The inspiration behind the Habring² Foudroyante was to showcase a dramatic, rare mechanical display of time by combining a foudroyante (“flashing seconds”) complication — where a small hand races around its dial once per second to indicate fractions of a second — with Habring²’s expertise in precision mechanics, expressing the brand’s philosophy that every second counts and pushing the boundaries of traditional mechanical watchmaking by revealing the relentless, rapid passage of time in an engaging and visually striking way without sacrificing reliability or craftsmanship.

The inspiration behind the Habring² x Massena LAB CFP was rooted in a collaboration between independent Austrian watchmaker Habring² and horological creative studio Massena LAB to create a rare and technically ambitious monopusher chronograph with a perpetual calendar, drawing its design cues from the iconic vintage layouts of the Patek Philippe reference 1518 “grail” perpetual chronograph and reinterpreting those classic elements through a film-negative-inspired dial concept that inverts traditional dial contrasts for striking legibility, all while showcasing Habring²’s compact in-house A11CP movement and emphasizing the fusion of heritage aesthetic with contemporary independent watchmaking ingenuity.

The Legacy of Habring²: A History of Precision, Style and Innovation

Habring² was founded in 2004 in Völkermarkt, Austria, by master watchmaker Richard Habring and his wife Maria, building on Richard’s earlier work developing important complications at IWC during the mechanical watchmaking revival of the 1990s. From the beginning, the brand focused on mechanical integrity over excess, creating robust in-house movements and rare complications such as deadbeat seconds, foudroyante, and monopusher chronographs within a restrained, functional design language.

Produced in very small numbers and largely assembled by hand, Habring² watches earned a reputation for delivering serious horological substance at honest prices. Today, they are respected by collectors as modern expressions of traditional watchmaking and a quiet but influential voice in contemporary independent horology.
