The Legacy of J.P. Stevens: A History of Precision, Style and Innovation

J.P. Stevens Watch Company was established in Atlanta, Georgia, in the early 1880s by James P. Stevens. While American watchmaking was dominated by northern companies such as Waltham and Elgin, Stevens attempted to establish watch manufacturing in the South, producing a limited number of pocket-watch movements.

Unable to compete with the larger American factories, J.P. Stevens produced watches for only a few years before disappearing in the 1880s. Today, its pocket watches are rare collectibles and reminders of an unusual chapter in Southern watchmaking history.
