Expert Care for Every Watch Style & Collection

We specialize in repairing popular Clebar collections. Learn more about the history of these collections:

The Clebar Chronograph watch was rooted in the mid-20th-century demand for precise, utilitarian timepieces that could serve professionals like pilots, engineers, and sportsmen. Clebar, often using components and designs closely linked to Heuer and Zodiac, focused on producing affordable yet high-quality chronographs that echoed the aesthetics and performance of more expensive counterparts. The designs were influenced by the clean legibility and functional layout required in tool watches, with mechanical movements such as the Venus 178 or Valjoux calibers offering both reliability and sophistication. This made Clebar chronographs appealing to those who valued performance without paying luxury-brand prices.

The Clebar Dive watch stemmed from the rising popularity of underwater exploration and recreational diving during the 1950s and 1960s, a time when rugged, water-resistant watches became essential tools rather than fashion accessories. Designed to meet the demands of divers and adventurers, Clebar’s dive watches featured high-visibility dials, rotating bezels for tracking dive time, and robust cases to withstand underwater pressure. These models were often powered by reliable Swiss movements like the Landeron 248, aligning them with other professional-grade dive watches of the era but offered at a more accessible price point, appealing to both serious divers and everyday enthusiasts.

The Clebar Military-Style watch stemmed from the utilitarian timepieces issued during World War II, particularly those worn by Allied forces. These watches were designed for functionality, with easy-to-read dials, luminous markers, and rugged cases capable of withstanding harsh field conditions. Clebar’s military-style models mirrored this design ethos, offering civilians a watch that combined the reliability and toughness of wartime instruments with the practicality needed for everyday wear. Their 24-hour dial variants and manual-wind movements reflected the no-nonsense precision valued by soldiers, making them popular among those who admired both the aesthetics and purpose-driven design of military watches.

The Clebar Talon watch was inspired by the desire to blend the rugged legacy of vintage dive watches with the performance demands of modern deep-sea exploration. Designed as an extreme tool watch, the Talon XTD features professional-grade specs like 2000m water resistance, a helium release valve, and oversized luminescent hands for underwater legibility—all wrapped in a bold, oversized case. Its use of the Swiss ETA 2826-2 automatic movement with a big date complication adds precision and practicality, while its limited 100-piece production run appeals to collectors. Revived under the Genender family’s leadership, the Talon pays homage to Clebar’s roots while pushing boundaries for today’s adventurers.

The Clebar-Zodiac watch was driven by a strategic partnership that allowed Clebar to capitalize on Zodiac’s established reputation in tool watches and Heuer’s manufacturing capabilities, creating timepieces that delivered high-end chronograph performance at a more accessible price. This collaboration, particularly evident in the 1960s, resulted in Clebar-branded watches that shared cases, movements, and designs with Zodiac and Heuer models—such as the Heuer Carrera reference 73321. The goal was to provide enthusiasts with precision, style, and functionality typical of Swiss chronographs, but under the Clebar name, making these watches appealing alternatives for budget-conscious collectors seeking the craftsmanship of renowned Swiss watchmakers.

HISTORY OF CLEBAR

The Legacy of Clebar: A History of Precision, Style and Innovation

Clebar was established in 1925 in Le Locle, Switzerland, a city renowned for its watchmaking heritage. Initially focusing on stopwatches and rally timers, the brand expanded into wristwatches and chronographs, gaining popularity in the mid-20th century. Clebar was distributed in the United States by Edward Trauner Inc., which also handled Zodiac watches. The brand often collaborated with other manufacturers, including Heuer, leading to timepieces that shared components and designs with more prominent brands.

However, the quartz crisis of the 1970s, which saw a surge in affordable, battery-powered watches, severely impacted traditional mechanical watchmakers. This industry upheaval, combined with economic challenges, led to the decline of many Swiss watch brands, including Clebar, which eventually ceased operations during this period.
