Expert Care for Every Watch Style & Collection

We specialize in repairing popular Sheffield collections. Learn more about the history of these collections:

The Sheffield Allsport watch was originally inspired by the wave of accessible, adventure-ready “skin diver” watches popular in the 1960s and 1970s, designed for recreational divers and outdoor enthusiasts who wanted rugged performance without the cost of professional dive gear. It featured a bold dial, a rotating bezel, and a water-resistant case that reflected the growing public fascination with exploration, sport, and maritime style. When revived in the 2020s, the modern Allsport models were reimagined to honor this heritage, blending the original’s utilitarian charm with upgraded specs like sapphire crystals, Super-LumiNova lume, and 200m water resistance—making it a tribute to the original while appealing to today’s vintage-inspired watch community.

We know that your Sheffield watch is important to you and understand that the sentimental value more often than not outweighs the monetary value. Our expert watchmakers strive to make sure your watch can be worn for many years to come.

The Sheffield Jump Hour watch was inspired by the futuristic watch designs of the 1970s, particularly the mechanical digital display trend that replaced traditional hands with rotating discs to indicate hours, minutes, and sometimes seconds. This unconventional time display mirrored the era’s fascination with space-age aesthetics, dashboard instruments, and mechanical innovation. Often marketed as “digital” before LED became mainstream, the Jump Hour’s inspiration lay in merging sleek modernism with analog mechanics, offering a bold and stylish alternative to standard dials during a time of rapid design evolution.

The Sheffield Sportlume watch was inspired by bold racing colors and functional design elements from the 1960s and 1970s, particularly drawing from the vibrant aesthetic of vintage Porsche racing liveries. Its most distinctive feature—a fully lumed dial—was designed to offer high visibility in all lighting conditions, while the offset, pilot-style layout paid homage to instrument gauges found in classic sports cars and aviation dashboards. The Sportlume combines retro motorsport flair with practical legibility, aiming to capture the spirit of speed, precision, and fun in a compact, affordable field-style watch.

The Sheffield Tilted Pilot Travel Watch was inspired by cockpit gauges and dashboard-mounted driver’s watches from the mid-20th century, designed with a rotated dial to improve readability without having to turn the wrist—especially useful for pilots and drivers keeping hands on controls. This angled layout reflects practical aviation and automotive design language, where quick-glance legibility was vital. Blending this utilitarian inspiration with vintage travel aesthetics, the watch channels a nostalgic yet functional spirit, making it a tribute to purposeful design used in high-mobility settings.

The Sheffield World Time Travel watch was inspired by the golden age of international jet travel in the 1960s and 1970s, when the ability to track multiple time zones became both a practical tool and a status symbol. Designed to appeal to globe-trotters and business travelers, the watch featured a prominent world map or city ring motif, allowing users to view local time in various global regions at a glance. Its design channeled the optimism and sophistication of mid-century travel culture, combining functionality with a stylish presentation that reflected the era’s fascination with international connectivity and exploration.

HISTORY OF SHEFFIELD

The Legacy of Sheffield: A History of Precision, Style and Innovation

Sheffield Watch Company was established in 1960 in Muttenz, Switzerland, as Sheffield Watch S.A. Despite its British-sounding name, the company had no ties to Sheffield, England. In 1967, it expanded into the U.S. market through Sheffield Watch Inc., based in New York, offering affordable mechanical watches featuring Swiss pin-lever movements. The brand gained popularity for its stylish yet budget-friendly timepieces, such as the Allsport diver series, which were widely distributed in department stores and catalogs. However, rapid expansion and significant advertising expenditures led to financial difficulties. In 1971, the Swiss Society for the Watch Industry (SSIH) acquired a majority stake, but the company ceased operations by 1972.

In recent years, the Sheffield name has been revived by watch enthusiast Jay Turkbas, who has introduced modern interpretations of classic models like the Allsport, blending vintage design with contemporary watchmaking.
