Auburndale Watch Company was a short-lived American watch manufacturer founded in Auburndale, Massachusetts, in the mid-1870s by D. W. Player, who aimed to produce high-quality watches using innovative machinery to rival established firms like Waltham and Elgin. The company’s most notable product was the Auburndale Rotary, a distinctive model featuring a rotating dial instead of moving hands—a mechanical curiosity that reflected the inventive spirit of the era. Despite its originality, the design proved too complex and costly to mass-produce, and the company struggled financially, closing within just a few years.

Today, surviving Auburndale watches are rare collector’s pieces admired for their unconventional engineering and place in early American horological experimentation.
