BWC Swiss, short for Buttes Watch Company, was founded in 1924 by Arthur Charlet in Buttes, Switzerland, a small village in the Jura Mountains known for precision watchmaking. The company built its early reputation on reliable mechanical timepieces that embodied Swiss craftsmanship and value. Through the mid-20th century, BWC Swiss produced elegant dress watches and robust chronographs powered by movements from renowned suppliers such as Landeron, Valjoux, and ETA. When the quartz revolution emerged in the 1970s, the brand adapted by introducing high-accuracy quartz models while continuing limited production of mechanical pieces. This flexibility helped BWC Swiss survive when many traditional watchmakers disappeared.
