Founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in Sonvilier, Switzerland, Chopard began as a maker of precise pocket watches and chronometers, earning a strong reputation among European clients, including the Russian Imperial Court. The company remained family-run until 1963, when Karl Scheufele, a German watchmaker and jeweler, purchased it, relocating operations to Geneva and expanding the brand’s identity. Under Scheufele’s leadership, Chopard evolved into a luxury house known for combining Swiss watchmaking precision with high jewelry craftsmanship.
