The Ingraham Hobart clock, introduced in the early 20th century, was inspired by the era’s demand for refined yet affordable mantel clocks that blended practicality with tasteful design. Drawing from neoclassical influences popular in American home décor around the 1910s, the Hobart featured a balanced case with clean lines, modest ornamentation, and an emphasis on symmetry, making it suitable for middle-class parlors and studies. Its inspiration lay in providing a reliable 8-day timepiece that echoed the elegance of higher-end European styles while remaining accessible to the average American household.

What Our Customers Are Saying:
Heartfelt Testimonials on Clock Repair
David Keeler ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My Seth Thomas clock is a family heirloom – it was given to my grandfather in the 1950’s as a recognition for his community service. It fell from my fireplace mantel and was damaged. I was fortunate to find Times Ticking on the Internet. They did a wonderful job repairing and restoring my clock which now sits proudly on my mantel again. I could not be more pleased with the quality of work and the helpfulness offered at every point in the process. This is truly a professional organization which I highly recommend to anyone needing their services.
Peter Wilson ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trusted a very sentimental clock to Times Ticking for refurbishment. Spoke on the phone and immediately felt that they were the right company. They explained the process to us and the turn around time. We received our clock back in the agreed time frame and were amazed at the quality of repair not only to the clock casing but the clock works as if new. The clock belonged to my father in law who passed recently, we placed the clock on the mantle and my 92 year old mother in law heard the chimes and it brought tears to her eyes and a smile to her face. THANK YOU for that gift. 10 out of 10
Susan Runk ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My parents own a schoolhouse circa 1870’s that I had cleaned for their 60th anniversary. The job was done on time at the exact price quoted, I would trust no one else with my clocks. The staff was very friendly and communicated with me when the job was complete. Thanks for the great work!! I’ll be back for sure.
Peter Vroom ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I was initially hesitant to send off a clock to another state without personally visiting a physical store. However, the staff at Times Ticking immediately contacted me once the clock was received and provided a quote and estimated timeline to fix. I received the fixed clock back through the mail much earlier than anticipated and in wonderful working condition! Despite being over 100 years old, the clock mechanism looks almost brand new after cleaning and repair. Thank you!
Becky G. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I am so happy with how my Seth Thomas clock turned out! Thanks to Times Ticking I learned that I inherited a priceless 200+ year-old wall clock (with wood gears), and also thanks to Times Ticking I am able to use it to keep time in my office and enjoy hearing the warm “tick tock” while I work. Effective communication, exemplary care with my antique, and reasonable pricing.
Casey Howard⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Our old Seth Thomas clock was destined to be passed down to another generation (4th) not working. Thanks to TT for giving it life and a future. They had to totally dismantle it, redo bushings and replace some parts. What a job well done, and a lot of work! Great communicators as well as doing follow up to make sure that all is well. Thank you all at Times Ticking.

Expert Care for Every Clock Style & Collection
The Ingraham Black Mantel clock was inspired by the luxurious French marble clocks of the late 19th century, which were highly fashionable but far too expensive for most American households. To make a stylish alternative accessible, Edward Ingraham developed a process of japanning—coating wooden cases with a durable black enamel finish that imitated the look of polished stone. These clocks often featured gilded accents, painted details, or faux marble panels, echoing European elegance while remaining affordable to the growing American middle class, and they quickly became a staple of Ingraham’s production and a symbol of tasteful domestic décor.

The Ingraham Figure Eight clock drew its inspiration from mid-19th-century American Gothic Revival design, where architects and furniture makers emphasized bold vertical lines, pointed arches, and ornate silhouettes. Elias Ingraham adapted these stylistic cues into clock cases, creating the distinctive stacked “figure eight” form with separate circular openings for the dial and pendulum window. This design not only provided a balanced and elegant shape but also showcased the movement within, appealing to Victorian tastes for both ornament and visible mechanics, making it one of Ingraham’s most recognizable and enduring clock styles.

The Ingraham Sharp Gothic clock, designed by Elias Ingraham in the 1840s, was inspired by the Gothic Revival movement sweeping through architecture and decorative arts in both Europe and America. Characterized by pointed arches, steep gables, and vertical lines, Gothic Revival emphasized height and drama, which Ingraham translated into the clock’s distinctive “steeple” form with its tall spires and sharp angles. By adapting architectural motifs into a compact household timepiece, he created an affordable yet striking design that captured the romantic spirit of the era, ultimately becoming one of the most iconic and widely copied American clock styles.

The Ingraham Venetian clock was inspired by the elegance and artistic flair associated with Venetian decorative arts and classical European design, which were admired in late 19th-century America. With its domed top, refined proportions, and ornamental details, the Venetian echoed the grandeur of Old World architecture and furnishings while being scaled for the American mantel. Elias Ingraham and his company aimed to bring a sense of cultured sophistication into middle-class homes, offering a clock that balanced affordability with a distinctly European aesthetic, making the Venetian line one of their more stylish and aspirational offerings.

HISTORY OF INGRAHAM
The Legacy of Ingraham: A History of Precision, Style and Innovation
The E. Ingraham Company of Bristol, Connecticut, began with Elias Ingraham, a cabinetmaker who introduced the Gothic “steeple” clock in the 1840s. Inspired by Gothic Revival design, his work shaped an American clock style that was widely admired. Incorporated in 1884, the company thrived under the Ingraham family, producing figure-eight, Venetian, and the well-known black enamel “black mantel” clocks.
By the 20th century, Ingraham expanded into pocket and wristwatches, securing its place in American horology. Despite wars and growing competition, the company operated until 1967. Today, its clocks and watches are prized for their design, craftsmanship, and lasting influence on American clockmaking.
