Founded in 1889 in Otay, California, the Otay Watch Company was the ambitious project of land developer Frank A. Kimball, who aimed to make the town a center of American watchmaking. Seeking to rival Eastern giants like Waltham and Elgin, Otay produced a limited run of finely crafted pocket watches—such as the F.A. Kimball, Native Son, and Golden Gate—featuring 15-jewel movements and intricate damascening.
