The MCT Evo Vantablack was inspired by a collaboration between MCT and celebrated artist Anish Kapoor, aiming to amplify the watch’s architectural depth by using the “blackest material in the universe” to create the illusion of a void. The interior dial and the tip of the minute hand are coated in Vantablack—a carbon nanotube substance that absorbs 99.96–99.965% of light—making the movement and rotating prism display appear to float above an infinite black hole, a visual effect Kapoor described as akin to a spatial singularity. This dramatic aesthetic decision was intended to transform traditional horology into a mesmerising kinetic sculpture, merging high-end craftsmanship with avant-garde artistry .

The MCT  Frequential F110 was inspired by a desire to evolve the brand’s prism-based architecture into something more traditionally “open‑worked” and mechanical. Designed by Fabrice Gonet and introduced at Baselworld 2015, it retains MCT’s signature industrial aesthetic while showcasing a prominent central balance wheel on the dial—an unprecedented visual statement for the brand. The titanium case, sapphire crystal, and exposed mechanics combine to present a kinetic sculpture, highlighted by a central regulator display and manual-wind movement, marrying refined engineering with avant-garde design.

The MCT Sequential S100 was born from a vision pioneered by Denis Giguet and designer Eric Giroud to redefine mechanical timekeeping with kinetic architecture: it harnesses four rotating prism modules—each made of five triangular prisms—that sequentially reveal the hour much like the split-flap boards in classic European train stations. The result was a visually striking, architectural “automaton” on the wrist: a masculine, high-tech reinterpretation that preserved the theatrical mechanical choreography of its predecessor but in a more compact, monochromatic, and wear-resistant form.

The Legacy of MCT: A History of Precision, Style and Innovation

Founded in 2007 in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, MCT (Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps) was the brainchild of Denis Giguet, who sought to revolutionize watchmaking with a bold new display system. The 2009 Sequential One, featuring rotating prisms and a jumping-minute disc, defined MCT’s futuristic aesthetic and earned praise for its mechanical ingenuity and architectural design.

Though critically acclaimed, MCT struggled with the challenges of independent luxury watchmaking and ceased operations around 2019. Today, its timepieces—especially the Sequential series—are celebrated as kinetic works of art that redefined how time could be seen and experienced.
