Cortébert’s caliber 616 and 618 pocket watches were inspired by the pursuit of robustness and precision in large-format movements during the early 20th century, when oversized calibers were favored for reliability and ease of servicing. These 16-ligne hand-wound mechanisms were designed to be durable workhorses, powering sturdy pocket watches that could stand up to daily use on railways, in industry, and in military settings. Their inspiration was purely functional—solid engineering with generous proportions to ensure accuracy and longevity—but they went on to earn legendary status when Officine Panerai adopted them for its oversized Radiomir dive watches built for the Italian Navy. What began as a movement born of practicality and endurance became iconic through its role at the heart of some of the most storied military watches of World War II.

Cortébert Jump-Hour Pocket Watch Repair >
Cortébert’s Pallweber jump-hour pocket watches were inspired by a late-19th-century fascination with progress and modernity, when inventors and watchmakers sought new ways to display time that broke from the centuries-old dial and hands format. The system was designed by Austrian engineer Josef Pallweber, whose mechanism used rotating numeral discs to “jump” the hours and minutes through windows, mimicking the crisp readability of the era’s train station clocks and mechanical counters. Cortébert, always eager to pair technical independence with forward-looking ideas, licensed the design in the 1880s and brought it to life in beautifully finished Swiss pocket watches. The inspiration was as much cultural as mechanical: to make timekeeping feel futuristic, precise, and aligned with the industrial age’s spirit of innovation.

Cortébert Mid-Century Dress Watch Repair >
Cortébert’s mid-century dress watches of the 1950s and 1960s were inspired by the postwar shift toward elegance, refinement, and modern practicality, when consumers wanted timepieces that could move seamlessly from office to evening. Rather than oversized military or railroad tools, these watches embraced slimmer in-house calibers, enamel or silvered dials, and clean designs with dauphine hands and applied markers that reflected the understated sophistication of the era. The inspiration was a combination of mid-20th-century modernism and Swiss watchmaking’s desire to appeal to a growing middle class that valued precision and style in equal measure, resulting in watches that were tasteful, reliable, and timelessly wearable.
We know that your Cortébert watch is important to you and understand that the sentimental value more often than not outweighs the monetary value. Our expert watchmakers strive to make sure your watch can be worn for many years to come.
Cortébert Military Watch Repair >
Cortébert’s military wristwatches of the World War II era were inspired by the urgent need for rugged, no-nonsense timepieces that could survive the demands of soldiers in the field. Built with sturdy cases, luminous hands and numerals, and large, legible dials, they were designed for clarity under low light and reliability under harsh conditions. Unlike decorative dress watches, these pieces were driven by functionality and wartime practicality—simple tools that a soldier could trust in the mud, the dark, or under fire. Their inspiration came directly from the battlefield: to create watches that sacrificed luxury for resilience, ensuring that timekeeping was one piece of equipment soldiers never had to second-guess.

Cortébert Railroad Pocket Watch Repair >
Cortébert’s railroad pocket watches, later sold under the Perseo name in Italy, were inspired by the critical need for precision and reliability in the age of expanding railroads. As train travel became the backbone of modern industry and commerce in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, even a small timing error could result in catastrophic accidents. Rail companies required rugged, highly accurate, and legible watches that could withstand daily use by conductors and engineers. Cortébert answered this demand with large, bold-dial pocket watches built to exacting standards, delivering both the accuracy and durability railroads depended on. When Italy’s Ferrovie dello Stato officially adopted them in 1927, Cortébert created the Perseo brand to align with nationalist laws, ensuring that the inspiration—safety, standardization, and trust in time—remained at the heart of these enduring railroad watches.
We know that your Cortébert watch is important to you and understand that the sentimental value more often than not outweighs the monetary value. Our expert watchmakers strive to make sure your watch can be worn for many years to come.

What Our Customers Are Saying:
Heartfelt Testimonials on Watch Repair
I found Times Ticking on the internet. The last time I had a watch repaired locally it cost more than the watch did new. I got it back just like new 2 weeks later and 2,000 miles away. HIGHLY recommended. Times Ticking was prompt, inexpensive, and even phoned when they got my watch and told me in advance what it would cost to repair.
Their service was grade A!!! They're quick and professional; they always kept me updated with status of my watches. Their work is flawless which they stand behind, to me most importantly. They speak to you as if you're an old friend asking for help; in which they're always happy to do. Times Ticking; a place where you can ask an old friend for help.
I cannot speak to the local facilities or sales staff. I am an internet customer who took a chance and sent my prized Accutron watch across the country to folks I do not know and have never met. This was a big decision which took several weeks to discern. I am thrilled with my decision and am planning to send my Dad’s watch in for repair. The difference? This time there is no hesitation whatsoever.
I was thrilled that they were able to repair and clean up a watch that I had inherited from my mother. It looks great and works great. The service was fast. The person who called me about the watch was very friendly and seemed grateful for my business. I would highly recommend them to anyone and will use them again if the need arises. So refreshing to receive such good customer service these days!
I highly recommend Times Ticking for watch repair. Jesse & crew know their stuff and even take the time to talk with you. They communicate very friendly/professionally and most of all the prices are more than fair for such craftsmen skills! My opinion: They are like the American Restoration of watches.

HISTORY OF CORTÉBERT
The Legacy of Cortébert: A History of Precision, Style and Innovation
Cortébert, founded in 1790 by Abraham-Louis Juillard in the Swiss village that gave the brand its name, grew from a small workshop into a true manufacture by 1865, producing its own movements, cases, and dials inside a factory that became the lifeblood of the community. Known for its early adoption of Josef Pallweber’s jump-hour mechanism in the 1880s, Cortébert also earned international acclaim with precision railroad watches, most famously supplying Italy’s state railway in 1927 under the Perseo brand. Its robust 16-ligne calibers powered Panerai’s legendary wartime divers, and in 1947 its movements were licensed by the Soviet Union to create the Molnija 3602. By the 1950s and 60s Cortébert employed over 100 workers, produced more than 100,000 watches annually, and collected medals at international exhibitions, but the rise of quartz and stronger marketing by larger rivals led to its decline; after its sale to Omega in 1962, the factory finally closed in 1984.
Today, though the name is gone, Cortébert lives on through Perseo, Panerai’s military legacy, Soviet horology, and the collectors who prize its pocket watches, jump-hours wristwatches.
