The Legacy of Favre-Leuba: A History of Precision, Style and Innovation

Favre-Leuba traces its origins back to 1737 when Abraham Favre began crafting timepieces in Le Locle, making it one of Switzerland’s oldest watch brands and a pioneer in early Swiss horology. The company formally became Favre-Leuba in 1815 after partnering with Auguste Leuba, eventually gaining worldwide recognition in the 19th and early 20th centuries for its precision and adventurous spirit. By the 1950s–1970s, Favre-Leuba became known for rugged, innovative tool watches like the Deep Blue diver, the Bathy depth-gauge series, and the Bivouac altimeter watch—timepieces designed for explorers, mountaineers, and divers who needed instruments they could trust in extreme conditions.

Though the brand faced decline during the quartz crisis, it was revived in the 21st century with a renewed focus on its heritage of technical exploration and bold, functional design.
