Cabestan was founded in 2003 by master watchmaker Jean-François Ruchonnet, who sought to merge traditional haute horlogerie with cutting-edge mechanical design. The brand became renowned for its revolutionary vertical movement architecture, showcased in its debut model, the Winch Tourbillon Vertical, which displayed time through chain-and-fusee transmission systems reminiscent of old marine chronometers. These intricate mechanisms, driven by visible miniature winches and rotating drums, redefined modern mechanical watchmaking by blending technical artistry with visual spectacle.
