Expert Care for Every Watch Style & Collection

We specialize in repairing popular COMEX collections. Learn more about the history of these collections:

The Omega Seamaster “Ploprof” COMEX was inspired by COMEX’s early search for a dive watch that could survive unprecedented depths and the unique challenges of saturation diving. In the late 1960s, before their partnership with Rolex, COMEX collaborated with Omega to test and refine the Ploprof (“Plongeur Professionnel,” or “professional diver”), a purpose-built watch engineered to be virtually impermeable to helium and withstand pressures far beyond standard diving limits. Its monobloc case construction, distinctive crown-lock system, and massive bezel were all designed for maximum strength and security during prolonged high-pressure exposure. COMEX divers used these watches extensively during deep-sea experiments and record-setting dives, proving the Ploprof’s capabilities in real-world conditions. This collaboration not only cemented the Ploprof’s reputation as one of the most robust mechanical dive watches ever made but also set the stage for COMEX’s later, even more famous partnerships with Rolex.

We know that your COMEX watch is important to you and understand that the sentimental value more often than not outweighs the monetary value. Our expert watchmakers strive to make sure your watch can be worn for many years to come.

The Rolex Sea-Dweller “Great White” COMEX was inspired by COMEX’s ongoing need for a watch capable of handling the extreme depths and extended high-pressure conditions encountered during saturation diving, but with even greater resilience than the Submariner line. Introduced in the late 1970s, the “Great White” nickname came from its all-white dial text—replacing the earlier red accents—while still prominently displaying the COMEX logo. It incorporated the helium escape valve technology perfected through earlier COMEX collaborations, offering a depth rating of 610 meters (2,000 feet) and a thicker case for added durability. The watch was designed not for style or commercial availability, but as a precision tool tested and proven in COMEX’s professional dive missions. Its blend of functional engineering, limited distribution, and direct association with legendary deep-sea exploration has made it one of the most coveted Sea-Dweller variants among collectors today.

We know that your COMEX watch is important to you and understand that the sentimental value more often than not outweighs the monetary value. Our expert watchmakers strive to make sure your watch can be worn for many years to come.

The Rolex Sea-Dweller “Triple Six” COMEX was inspired by COMEX’s push for deeper, longer, and more technically demanding saturation dives in the early 1980s, which required a major leap forward in dive watch engineering. Rolex responded with an all-new Sea-Dweller design featuring a sapphire crystal for greater strength, a larger helium escape valve for improved decompression safety, and a doubled depth rating of 1,220 meters (4,000 feet)—making it one of the most capable mechanical dive watches in the world at the time. The “Triple Six” nickname came from its 16660 reference number, and COMEX-issued versions bore the company’s logo on the dial along with individually numbered case backs for tracking. Built for pure function and issued only to professional COMEX divers, this model represented the culmination of Rolex’s tool-watch evolution, blending cutting-edge durability with the proven heritage of the COMEX partnership.

The Rolex Submariner COMEX was inspired directly by COMEX’s need for a highly reliable, water-resistant tool watch that could survive the extreme pressures of saturation diving. In the early 1970s, COMEX was pioneering deep-sea engineering projects and pushing human limits underwater, which exposed divers’ watches to prolonged high-pressure environments where helium gas could seep into cases and damage crystals during decompression. Rolex responded by adapting its existing Submariner Ref. 5513 with a helium escape valve—technology developed for the Sea-Dweller—and by adding reinforced cases and COMEX-branded dials for identification. This watch wasn’t about retail sales or aesthetics; it was purpose-built for working divers, designed to function flawlessly in hostile environments, and became a symbol of the partnership between Swiss watchmaking innovation and professional deep-sea exploration.

We know that your COMEX watch is important to you and understand that the sentimental value more often than not outweighs the monetary value. Our expert watchmakers strive to make sure your watch can be worn for many years to come.

HISTORY OF COMEX

The Legacy of COMEX: A History of Precision, Style and Innovation

COMEX (Compagnie Maritime d’Expertises), founded in 1961 by Henri Germain Delauze in Marseille, France, rose to prominence as a world leader in deep-sea engineering and saturation diving during the 1960s and 1970s. Their work included record-breaking dives and pioneering underwater techniques, demanding tools that could withstand extreme depths and prolonged high-pressure exposure. To meet this need, COMEX collaborated with top Swiss watchmakers, first working with Omega in the late 1960s, whose Seamaster 600 “Ploprof” was tested and used by COMEX divers. In the early 1970s, Rolex became their main supplier, producing specialized Submariner and Sea-Dweller models fitted with helium escape valves, reinforced cases, and COMEX-branded dials. Issued exclusively to COMEX divers and never sold to the public, these watches proved themselves in some of the harshest diving environments on Earth.

Today, they are celebrated not just for their rarity and professional pedigree but also for their direct connection to a golden era of underwater exploration and innovation.
