Expert Care for Every Watch Style & Collection

We specialize in repairing popular Glycine collections. Learn more about the history of these collections:

The Glycine Airman watch came directly from the needs of international pilots in the early 1950s, particularly those flying long-haul routes across multiple time zones. In 1953, after discussions with U.S. Air Force personnel and commercial airline pilots, Glycine developed a watch that featured a 24-hour dial, a rotating bezel for tracking a second time zone, and hacking seconds for precise synchronization. This practical design allowed pilots to easily read military (24-hour) time and coordinate operations across global locations, making the Airman a pioneering tool watch for the jet age.

We know that your Glycine watch is important to you and understand that the sentimental value more often than not outweighs the monetary value. Our expert watchmakers strive to make sure your watch can be worn for many years to come.

The Glycine Combat watch was inspired by military field watches and the brand’s desire to create a rugged, reliable timepiece for demanding environments, both on land and underwater. Introduced as part of Glycine’s effort to expand beyond aviation, the Combat line—especially the popular Combat Sub—was designed for soldiers, divers, and adventurers who needed a durable, legible watch with water resistance and automatic movement. Its styling reflects classic military aesthetics, with clean dials, luminous markers, and robust cases built to withstand harsh conditions, blending tool-watch functionality with everyday versatility.

The Glycine F‑104 was inspired by the sleek, high‑speed profile of the Lockheed F‑104 “Starfighter” jet and the precision instruments found in its cockpit. Glycine echoed this aviation heritage in the watch’s design details—its clean, easy‑to-read dial features a stepped or inclined chapter ring reminiscent of aircraft gauges, while the sturdy case and flat sapphire crystal evoke the robust, functional build of flight instruments. For Glycine’s 100th anniversary in 2014, they even released a special F‑104 edition with pilot‑style features like an onion crown and riveted leather strap, deepening its connection to vintage aviation and early jet age aesthetics.

The Glycine Incursore watch was inspired by vintage Italian military watches used during World War II, particularly those worn by naval commandos and special forces. Its name—”Incursore,” meaning “raider” or “commando” in Italian—reflects this heritage. The design pays homage to minimalist, utilitarian field watches of that era, featuring a large, highly legible dial, oversized case, and prominent crown, all meant for durability and ease of use in harsh conditions. By reviving these historical elements with modern construction and Swiss movements, Glycine created a bold, functional tribute to classic military timepieces.

The Glycine KMU 48 (with “KMU” standing for Kleine Mechanische Uhr, or “small mechanical watch,” despite its massive 48 mm size) debuted in the late 1990s as a nod to the no-nonsense military field watches of the mid-20th century. Its design draws heavily on those rugged, legible servicemen’s timepieces from World War II — featuring bold Arabic numerals, cathedral hands, and an uncluttered dial for maximum readability. Powered by a hand-wound Unitas (ETA 6497) movement without an automatic rotor, the KMU 48 reinforces a functional, tool-watch ethos. With its oversized presence, vintage aesthetics, and minimalist field-watch sensibility, it appeals to collectors seeking a statement piece rooted in historical military utility.

HISTORY OF GLYCINE

The Legacy of Glycine: A History of Precision, Style and Innovation

Glycine was founded in 1914 by Eugène Meylan in Bienne, Switzerland, with a focus on producing finely crafted, precise timepieces and miniature movements for women’s watches. The brand gained widespread recognition in 1953 with the launch of the Airman, a 24-hour GMT pilot watch designed for military and commercial aviators, which became especially popular among U.S. Air Force personnel during the Vietnam War. Glycine continued to innovate throughout the 20th century, maintaining a reputation for rugged, functional watches with a strong aviation and military heritage.

Despite changing ownership over the years—including a 2016 acquisition by Invicta Watch Group—the brand has retained a loyal following, particularly for its classic Airman and Combat lines that reflect its roots in tool-watch design and Swiss horological tradition.
