The Pinion Atom 39 was inspired by a desire to create a refined, accessible tool watch that directly reflected the preferences of the watch enthusiast community. In 2018, Pinion conducted an online survey to gather feedback on design elements for the next iteration of their Atom series. Respondents expressed a preference for a smaller 39mm case, lighter dial options, the inclusion of a date complication, and a Swiss automatic movement. Pinion incorporated these insights into the Atom 39, resulting in a watch that features a matte bead-blasted stainless steel case, a clean and legible dial, and is powered by the reliable ETA 2824-2 movement. This collaborative approach ensured that the Atom 39 resonated with the community, embodying both functional design and enthusiast-driven features.

The Pinion Axis II Bronze was inspired by a desire to blend traditional British design with the distinctive characteristics of bronze, a material known for developing a unique patina over time. As the first modern British watch company to introduce a bronze-cased watch in 2013, Pinion aimed to create a timepiece that not only paid homage to classic watchmaking but also offered a contemporary aesthetic. The Axis II Bronze features a 42mm case crafted from marine-grade bronze, ensuring durability and a dynamic aging process that adds character to each watch. This model builds upon the success of the original Axis Bronze, incorporating refinements in design and functionality to appeal to modern watch enthusiasts seeking a blend of heritage and individuality.

The Pinion Neutron was conceived as a refined evolution of the brand’s design ethos, aiming to distill its core aesthetics into a more compact and wearable form. Drawing inspiration from the earlier Atom model, the Neutron features a 38mm stainless steel case, making it Pinion’s smallest watch to date. The design emphasizes balance and proportion, with a slightly reduced dial aperture and a wider bezel to enhance visual harmony. A standout feature is the electroplated dial with a wave-like guilloché pattern at its center, offering a modern twist on traditional textures. Notably, the Pinion logo was moved from the dial to the rehaut, creating a cleaner and more open dial space. These thoughtful design choices reflect founder Piers Berry’s background in graphic design, resulting in a watch that seamlessly blends classic elements with contemporary refinement.

The Pinion Pure GG was inspired by professional instruments of the past, aiming to create a watch with a pure and legible dial. Designed in England and equipped with a Swiss hand-wound movement, this 42mm stainless steel model features a gunmetal DLC coating and a military green dial with a small seconds counter at 6 o’clock. The Pure GG draws inspiration from historical military watches and instruments, incorporating yellowish Super-LumiNova that mimics the appearance of aged radium lume. These design elements reflect founder Piers Berry’s commitment to blending traditional watchmaking aesthetics with modern craftsmanship.

The Pinion Revival 1969 was inspired by a desire to blend vintage horological craftsmanship with contemporary design. This limited-edition chronograph, restricted to just 100 pieces, houses a hand-wound Swiss Valjoux 7734 movement produced in 1969 but never previously assembled into a watch. By incorporating these New Old Stock (NOS) movements, Pinion offers wearers a unique connection to horological history. The watch features a 43mm polished stainless steel case, a dark dial with recessed chronograph counters, and an exhibition caseback showcasing the vintage movement through grey smoked glass. The Revival 1969 exemplifies Pinion’s commitment to creating timepieces that honor traditional watchmaking while appealing to modern enthusiasts.

HISTORY OF PINION

The Legacy of Pinion: A History of Precision, Style and Innovation

Founded in 2013 by designer Piers Berry in South Oxfordshire, Pinion Watch Company set out to revive British watchmaking with a modern edge. Inspired by military instruments and vintage styles, Berry focused on crafting mechanical watches with Swiss movements, all assembled in England. The brand made its mark early with the Axis Bronze—the first bronze-cased wristwatch from a modern British maker—establishing its rugged yet refined aesthetic.

Pinion followed with standout models like the hand-wound Pure and the limited-edition Revival 1969, which used vintage Valjoux movements. These small-batch watches solidified Pinion’s reputation for combining classic tool-watch design with minimalist elegance. Though still young, the brand has earned a loyal following for its craftsmanship, independent spirit, and uniquely British style.
