Raketa watches trace their roots to the Petrodvorets Watch Factory in Saint Petersburg, founded by Peter the Great in 1721 to produce precision instruments for the imperial court; after World War II, the facility transitioned to wristwatch production, and in 1961, following Yuri Gagarin’s spaceflight, the brand adopted the name “Raketa,” meaning “rocket,” to reflect national pride in scientific achievement.

Producing movements in-house, Raketa supplied reliable watches for explorers, submariners, and everyday citizens across the USSR, with models like the Big Zero, Copernicus, and 24-hour Polar becoming symbols of Soviet design; despite decades of change, the factory remained in its historic location, and today Raketa watches are valued for their distinctive style and strong connection to Russia’s industrial and space-age heritage.
