The Legacy of Yema: A History of Precision, Style and Innovation

Yema Watches was founded in 1948 in Besançon, France by watchmaker Henry Louis Belmont during a time when the country was rebuilding its manufacturing strength after World War II. Belmont set out to create reliable wristwatches that could compete internationally, and by the 1950s and 1960s Yema had become one of France’s most successful brands, producing rugged tool watches for divers, racers, pilots, and explorers.

Models such as the Superman dive watch and Rallygraf chronograph gained worldwide recognition, worn by French Air Force pilots, professional divers, and even used during early space missions. Despite ownership changes during the quartz crisis, Yema has endured as a symbol of French watchmaking heritage, known today for combining historic design with mechanical craftsmanship.
