The Zero West H2 watch was inspired by the Hawker Hurricane fighter aircraft that played a crucial role in the 1940 Battle of Britain, particularly the intense air battle known as “The Hardest Day” on August 18, 1940. Its dial design echoes the slip-turn indicator instrument from a Hurricane cockpit, and the watch even contains a small recast disc of metal taken from the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine of Hurricane P3708, the aircraft flown by RAF pilot Alexander “Jock” Girdwood during that battle. The watch was created as a tribute to the aircraft, the pilots who flew it, and the pivotal role the Hurricane played in defending Britain during World War II.

Zero West watches trace their origins to 2016 in Emsworth, England, when founders Andrew Brabyn and Philip Shaw set out to create timepieces celebrating Britain’s engineering, aviation, and navigational heritage. Instead of mass production, the company focused on historically inspired watches honoring milestones such as the Supermarine Spitfire, the de Havilland Mosquito, and the breakthroughs that helped solve the longitude problem at sea.

Many Zero West watches incorporate materials or design elements tied to these historic machines, linking horology with Britain’s legacy of innovation and exploration.
