Hanhart watches began in 1882 when Johann A. Hanhart founded the company in Switzerland before relocating to Schwenningen, Germany, where his son Wilhelm built it into a precision-timing pioneer. The brand’s first mechanical stopwatch in 1924 led to the iconic late-1930s single-pusher and dual-pusher pilot’s chronographs, marked by the fluted bezel and signature red pusher that became staples of German aviation.

Through the mid-20th century Hanhart provided essential chronographs and stopwatches for pilots, navigators, engineers, and racing teams, earning many models lasting collector appeal. Despite wartime pressures, shifting markets, and the rise of quartz, Hanhart stayed true to mechanical watchmaking and later revived its historic designs, making today’s Hanhart watches admired for their reliability, authenticity, and deep aviation heritage.
